Merry Christmas from the Rudland family

Station Road, Old and New

In the local museum I found an etching of a Station Road view which would appear to have been made from a point where our garden now lies. Judging by the buildings in the middle distance, the date would appear to be mid 1850s. The building on the left has a bit of artist’s licence, showing six dormer windows, when in fact there are seven. There is now a row of houses set back from the road on the right called Craigland. The biggest difference is the absence of Belmont, the house next to ours on the left though the dyke looks much as it is now.
For comparison, I attempted to capture similar views today and you can see how the trees have grown.
